Born in a small village, Meiric loves to doodle and fantasize since he was a child. In his young age when there was an era full of restrictions in 1970, he often dreamed of being a bird soaring freely in the sky. – Making lamps for me<\/span> is the intersection of hobby and career.<\/span><\/p>\n

I’ve always been keen on doodling and drawing since I was very young. <\/span>As a result I was good at cartography from high school all the way to college. <\/span>Making lamps for me is the intersection of hobby and career, I can do what I like and do it right for living, that makes me feel blessed and energetic every single day.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]When did you realize you love designing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

– I don\u2019t know, it is all in there, somewhere all up in the DNA. If there\u2019s something wrong, I can\u2019t help changing it by drawing. When I was a teenager, I sometimes got bored with those cityscapes I\u2019ve ever seen from books that looked crowded and unorganized. At some points, I used to simulate urban planning like electricity systems, drainage systems and traffic routes to overhaul, even though I was doing that for fun. The fever of adventure raised within me, I just want to do something different and break traditional rules.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]When did you decide on a career of being an industrial designer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

– I wasn\u2019t sure till very late.<\/span><\/p>\n

When I founded SEEDDESIGN, the first work have had a big success, but afterwards the others were not. So one of my clients from Scandinavia named Hans, he suggested me: \u2018Hey why don\u2019t you make glass lamps, that looks costy than plastic ones.\u2019 I knew nothing about glass at that time, so I commuted across the towns twice or four times a week, driving down to a hot shop located in Zhunan in order to get the skills of glassmaking. Time after time, gradually I was able to dedicate my solid knowledge of the other materials toward improving the process and equipments of glassmaking. The <\/span>interdisciplinary learning had brought me a huge benefit not only on my works <\/span>having superior quality, but also on giving me oppotunities designing some more well-receiving glass fixtures for more ODM customers. Ever since on, I realized maybe I can more or less pay bills by design as a profession.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]Are you a romantic or rational person?<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Absolutely romantic <\/span>as you can see, how<\/span> many people <\/span>would buy <\/span>the<\/span> work<\/span> \u201cVULTURE\u201c?<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s too <\/span>unique to be appreciated<\/span>. <\/span>I knew that, <\/span>but I still <\/span>liked<\/span> it to be able to rotate <\/span>and play around<\/span>, so I <\/span>enabled<\/span> it. VULTURE<\/span> to me <\/span>is a kind of <\/span>irrational behavior<\/span>. But I can’t always be like this. I <\/span>have to<\/span> consider <\/span>engineering<\/span> feasibility, cost, and market demand<\/span>…various factors that require numbers and logical thinking to evaluate whether or not to launch a product.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1622039744112{padding-top: 30px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/3″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][vc_single_image image=”57749″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css_animation=”fadeInUp”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/3″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]Among all of your designs, which one have you devoted to it the most?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

– The UFO, it was my very first work, for which it made me feel perturbed like treading on thin ice. Initially, I was not sure whether this is going to be a hot product or not, so I decided on sand casting that\u2019s 10 times cheaper rather than mold casting. It resulted in a problem that the castings weren’t precise enough to assemble. So I went to my friend\u2019s workshop to mill and assemble by myself overnight. The next morning till I took off my glasses, I just noted that only my eyes were clean in white. – I think style is not the factor I\u2019d take into account.<\/span><\/p>\n

Design jobs are inspired by every little thing. We perceive inconveniences in daily life, try to innovate and provide solutions to meet the needs by generating ideas along with personal perspectives, that’s my understanding of design. I believe there is something more inside, for instance, the heritage of spirit and core value to attain a marvelous design. Take luxury vehicles for example, they might want to convey a message of self consciousness or a particular kind of streamlined shape coming through to merge the brand’s unique qualities. But that can\u2019t be confined to any of styles, I doubt the founders have ever thought about that at the beginning.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]As an Asian, what do you see as the design differences between east and west?<\/strong><\/p>\n

– There are various of interactive-structure as you can see in SEED products, that\u2019s the difference. But I think that\u2019s just because of me, with my mechanics background, which has nothing to do with where I\u2019m from. I don\u2019t think about the concept of being Eastern and Western design. Regional concept to me is the beginning of self-limitation, my design thinking is boundaryless. In the past, those European vehicle groups used to design cars with identifiable culture styles, eventually they all turned to global type products in the end to target the globalized market. It’s all about design itself that should be a human-centered approach to innovate.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]Can you share an object you treasure<\/b> the<\/b> most with us?<\/b><\/p>\n

– An object that I treasure <\/span>the<\/span> most?<\/span> Actually<\/span>, I don\u2019t really treasure <\/span>stuff<\/span>. Instead, I <\/span>care more about people.<\/span>
\n<\/span>I like <\/span>something new and decent<\/span>, I don\u2019t <\/span>obsess<\/span> with old objects, cause <\/span>goods<\/span> are made to be used. However, I cherish the people <\/span>around me<\/span>. \u00a0Two things that matters in my life: \u201cSimplicity\u201d and \u201cGood characteristic\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/b>– It\u2019s quite simple in fact, I spend most of my time at home.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday, after my <\/span>chores are done <\/span>in the morning, I take a walk in my<\/span> front yard<\/span> enjoy<\/span>ing<\/span> the twittering of birds and the fragrance of all the flowers <\/span>surrounded<\/span>, Camellias, Roses, and Osmanthus, by which my wife planted. <\/span><\/p>\n

After that I normally spend quite some time<\/span> leaning by<\/span> the south window <\/span>in the corner<\/span>, where sunlight <\/span>streams through <\/span>perfectly for my reading. <\/span>I like to read. I read all kinds of books, particularly in history. It\u2019s interesting to know that human behavior is very predictable with the lessons from the past.\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]On Sunday, I go for a ride with some other motorcyclists friends, and come home before lunch spending the rest of time with my family: watch NETFLIX, go shopping, sometimes go to restaurants for supper. That\u2019s how I usually spend my weekends, nothing special.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”62713″ img_size=”large” css_animation=”fadeInUp”][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”62723″ img_size=”large” css_animation=”fadeInUp”][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/6″][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”2\/3″][vc_column_text]Is there anything that you are particular about in daily life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

– I like things with simple and good characteristics.<\/span>
\n<\/span>That\u2019s not that easy, actually. <\/span>Take food for example<\/span>, I like eating fish a lot, but only <\/span>the fresh ones<\/span>. It can be so tasty <\/span>even<\/span> if you<\/span> just <\/span>cook it in<\/span> a basic way<\/span>, <\/span>fresh is enough<\/span>. Or such as my table and high stools, they were both made of wood. But not some rare or <\/span>fancy <\/span>kind of wood, just walnut and beech. The stool<\/span>s were<\/span> designed and made by myself, I like<\/span> them <\/span>a lot that were out of consideration for my needs.<\/span>
\n<\/span>Same as tea, I <\/span>regularly get tea leaves from a farmer we have<\/span> known each other<\/span> for years. <\/span>It\u2019s<\/span> not expensive high-class tea, but I like it very much for its good texture in mouth and aromatic aftertaste. – I suppose I\u2019ll be a <\/span>chief<\/span>.<\/span>
\n<\/span>My parents ran a noodle vendor when I was little, so<\/span> I learned by osmosis how to make boring<\/span> food taste good since<\/span> I was<\/span> young. Besides, cooking is a <\/span>form of <\/span>creativity, <\/span>which is very consistent with my characters.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”30px”][vc_column_text]What design would it be, if it is your last design before retirement?<\/b><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Well, that\u2019s not gonna happen, cause I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll retire.<\/span>
\n<\/span>I\u2019ve seen some of my friends\u2019 daily life after they retired, farming, fishing, going on vacations, but that\u2019s kind of boring to me.
