Congratulations to designer Chang Huan Rou on her remarkable achievement of winning the Red Dot Award 2023 for the Konnect PV4, adding to her previous success in winning the German Design Award 2023 for the entire collection. Konnect has become the double award-winning star of SEED this year, showcasing outstanding design and creativity!
The Red Dot Design Award has been around for over 60 years and is widely considered one of the most prestigious and influential design awards in the world.
Taking inspiration from modernist architecture, KONNECT utilizes geometric forms to create a unique, symmetrical trapezoidal shape that allows for construction and recombination in a variety of ways.
KONNECT breaks with conventional one-way lighting by featuring an exclusive quick-release jack design that allows for swift positioning of the light direction, whether upward or downward. Not only does it provide functional lighting, but it also allows for configurable art decors through the arrangement of LED panels, enabling you to create different moods and styles for your space.

The concept of “light and shadow” is beautifully captured in WING. Its elegant, translucent dual-leaf design gracefully moves within the ring frame, casting a soft glow throughout the surrounding air. As the night descends, WING truly comes to life, enchanting all those who behold its magical ambience.
Dual-light: Blending beauty with reality
WING’s stunning design includes the innovative feature of “dual lighting”, which utilizes two light sources to softly illuminate the translucent dual-leaf structure from above. Not only does this technique brighten the ceiling, but it also creates a playful sway and diffuses a cozy, ethereal ambiance throughout the space. The downward light source offers a high-performance LED with CRI>95, and high-efficiency optical lens narrows the beam angle to 66° to meet ample illumination without glare.

Creating a lamp involves not only a design concept that brims with creativity, but also a group of precise craftsmen who can turn imagination into reality – the SEEDDESIGN Research and Development team.
The SEEDDESIGN R&D team brings the creative vision of designers to reality by using unique structures and innovative materials. With years of experience and skillful hands, they meticulously oversee the production process – from welding to shaping and polishing, through their dedication and attention to details, the team artfully brings together beauty and functionality in every SEEDDESIGN lamp.
Vice General Manager: Gong, Yu Quan
Mr. Gong, the VGM of SEEDDESIGN, is known for his dedication to challenges and meticulous approach. Since 1997, he has been leading the R&D team to create numerous classic products, emphasizing the importance of strict supervision of every production process. He enjoys tackling difficult problems and ensures that every light can be placed in the ideal space of each customer with the highest quality.
That morning, Mr. Gong shared little-known stories about product development and production in the meeting room after returning from the factory.
Can you introduce your job responsibilities to everyone?
– Essentially, I hold responsibility for the entire product creation process.
Once the mission has been defined, I collaborate with various departments to review feasibility assessments. After that, I oversee the production of all materials and manufacturing methods to ensure that they meet quality standards.
What’s the toughest process of turning a design blueprint into a finished product?
– I believe it’s welding for sure.
Welding is the most challenging step due to potential metal deformation caused by high temperatures. Even with robotic welding, it is difficult to achieve the same level of precision as manual adjustments performed by skilled craftsmen. Other than that, computer-controlled machining, including CNC lathes, milling machines, and punches, is typically more precise and manageable.
What is the most remarkable lamp you have ever made?
– LALU+ pendant lamp.
The lamp requires a complex process that involves multiple welding stages, as well as careful attention to accuracy due to its rotatable stem. When welding two D-shaped tubes to form the oval stem, any excess can lead to uneven weight distribution and cause the lamp post to tilt. That’s why we rely on skilled craftsmen to meticulously remove any resulting weld marks and achieve a flawless finish that allows for smooth rotation.
Which of the Seed collections is your favorite one?
– Planet floor lamp.
The lamp’s arm can be extended to the desired distance, and its height can also be adjusted by rotating the gears. I love the gears, which have a finely tuned engineering design and are very functional. I often adjust the arm in different ways and think about how to optimize its usability while playing with it on my desk.
What is your approach to continuously breaking through technical challenges?
– When faced with technical challenges, we take an approach of continuous learning and collaboration.
We visit other processing plants to gather insights and improve our capabilities, and work closely with our partners to overcome bottlenecks. We also stay current with the latest technology and equipment, conducting internal experiments and searching for opportunities to establish standard systems. One example of this is our DJ DIMMER structure, which underwent a rigorous experimental process, undergoing at least 23,000 cycles of rotation to ensure durability before it was launched.
What are the most significant changes for you since setting up the factory in 1997 until now?
–Well, not much has changed fundamentally.
My main goal has always been to make steady progress. Over the past 20 years, I have emphasized to my colleagues the importance of staying focused and careful to maintain high quality. We cannot afford to skip any steps in production to save time. It’s not rocket science, but we need to do it right to succeed.
Have you ever felt proud to work for SEED?
– Absolutely, it’s a great honor.
Our design concept, emotional engagement, and every production process for our collections are of high-end quality. Even our external manufacturers take pride in producing our products, and one plastic factory mentioned that their customers recognize their superior quality because they make parts for SEED. Although our competitors may try to replicate our ideas, our top-notch products speak for themselves.
What has driven you for the past twenty years or so?
– Being able to face different challenges always excites me!
The complexity of making lighting fixtures with a wide range of materials can make the job challenging, but since my first day at SEED, I have eagerly tackled any issues that arise and genuinely look forward to coming to work every day.
Moreover, SEED’s work environment is excellent, with design director Mr. Chen giving me the freedom to showcase my skills. Many of my colleagues have been with the company for over a decade, and as time went on, we have all become friends!
The design director in Seed, Meiric, plays a huge role in how the group reacts and moves forward, for whom he must consider the relationship between the brand, design, and people from a broader perspective .
Lamp designers are like poets who wander and seize every fleeting inspiration in daily life, transforming the ideas into sketches with the Midas touch, and refine to a sophisticated and timeless work to light up the darkness.
Featuring rotatable arm and shade, WÚ is the most flexible wall lamp that can be set precisely illuminating the preference nook by side.
Find your own light
Equipped with a double-shaft structure, WÚ has many different ways of usage with its horizontal and vertical lighting directions by pulling the arm out to the favored distance, and twisting the shade to project a 66° beam onto an object without disturbing one another. In addition to serving as a downlight, while pushing the fixture back into its niche and flipping the shade upward, it can also be an indirect wall washing light for a comfortable relaxing mood.

We are so thrilled to share the side shots of our 2022 launch event this October in Taipei. Over a hundred guests’ presence brought the light to the party, it was great to see the partners from far-off cities and the talks had been fruitful with joy!
During the event, our lighting designers conveyed their inspiration and perspectives on how they created design concepts and details of the latest collections– KONNECT, OLO Φ portable, WÚ, LISA, and WING. And Meiric, the design director, shared his experience and knowledge on how to overcome the challenges of the lighting design process.

Vibing this party we had a DJ playing great music at the same time echoing SEED’s iconic device—DJ Dimmer Base— and we made a transparent unit demonstrating how the gears transmit to the dimmer, so when rotating the base clockwise, the light would gradually turn on, like DJ’s with their turntables to control brightness by scratching.

After showing a series of new works for late 2022 and 2023, we would like to say a big “Thank you!” to all those who participated. Thank you for spending a great afternoon with us.
Composed of simple lines, LISA smoothly shifts light from linear to cross through the free rotation of crossbar, drawing in a warm flow of light as a visual effect of ever-changing light and shadow.
Simple yet versatile
Simple and neat, the designer has created an intriguing piece by subtly interweaving interactive elements and geometric lines. The three light poles can be operated individually—either in parallel or in random directions.
Subtle and refined
The purer the line, the more craftsmanship is required. Looking closer you will see the light poles are accurately aligned when they turn linear. Each space tolerance in between has to be taken with precision through back and forth multiple processes – stamping and forming, cutting and meticulous polishing – each step is crucial, demonstrating the subtleness and purity of the piece of work.
Comfy-cozy in the natural warm light
LISA features high-performance LED CRI 98, as natural as sunlight restoring the true color of the object. And comes with thoughtfully designed diffusers, emitting soft light and reducing glare for a sophisticated lighting atmosphere.

The light poles can be rotated at will to satisfy the basic illumination and to guide the visual effect in the space with their smooth beam line.

Equipped with optical sensor dimming to control the brightness by simply pausing a hand in front of it, or waving a hand to switch it on/off.

Building Imagination of Light
Breaking with the conventional notion of one-way lighting, KONNECT showcases light in a variety of ways between functional lighting and configurable art decors by arranging LED panels so that spaces can take on different styles with your mood, whether you want them to be lit at different angles going up or down.
Clean and precise trapezoidal section
Benefiting from a precise cutting and forming process, trapezoidal cuts can be viewed from every side. The fluidity of each line relies on a refined one-piece molding method to achieve the ultimate screw-free requirement with its flexibility of Polycarbonate.
KONNECT PV4
KONNECT PV4 can provide one-way illumination with sufficient brightness, or indirect light avoiding any discomfort from contrast glare.

▲ The light body opens up like a mysterious geometry floating in the air, and the contrasting tension of lines is fully revealed under the staggered arrangement of multiple lamps, bringing a pure and poetic visual enjoyment to the space.
KONNECT PL4
KONNECT PL4 provides just the right amount of brightness for the workplace with a length of 96 cm. You can handily flip the shade and switch to indirect lighting for a relaxing, muted mood.

Planet-friendly
Taking advantage of the physical properties of Polycarbonate, KONNECT fixes the lamp shade and diffuser with only 8 cards, achieving glue-free, easy removal for future maintenance and recycling.
The excellent LED light quality is also highly efficient and can be lasting for a long time, when a malfunction occurs, the board can be handily replaced avoiding potential reverse logistics.
In addition to using recycled paper pulp for packaging, the lamp can be minimized to a flat shape reducing the size and carbon footprint generated during transportation. All of which sustainability and durability are implemented caring for the environment.

Turning imagination into reality
Venturing into our third decade in the everchanging lighting industry, now we are celebrating our 30 year anniversary by holding an exhibition on-line and off-line in all the Seed stores, to share the ideas of craftsmanship and technology on how we continue developing and refining lighting fixtures since 1991, in response to the theme “Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication”.

“From dawn to dusk, people are naturally attracted by the change of the sky. For this very reason, I created a fixture that channels the natural brightness from outside,” states Designer Chen.Symbolizing the Sun, the APOLLO collection features a large LED light source with sun-like warmth to create a relaxing living space. Among them, the floor lamp is equipped with progressive dimming function, whether it is mimicking the bright morning light, afternoon sunlight, or elegant moonlight, all of which can be collected in one room everyday.
DJ Dimmer is one of the designer’s wacky inventions. Once upon a time, designer Meiric and his Danish clients Carsten and Christian sat on the floor engrossed in a deep discussion in the sample room. While Meiric was playing with a lamp in hands, an idea occurred to him: “what if a lamp switch could be operated like DJ’s with their turntables, to control brightness by scratching? What fun that would be!” So he immediately took to his drawing board and sketched the concept out on paper.
As though walking in the morning fog, the MIST attempts to capture the very moment in which the light reveals itself from the translucence in-between the mouth-blown glass.
Inspired by spinning Yo-Yo. In 1994, Meiric masterfully captures childlike innocence in his creation of the JOJO pendant. Looking like a musical note on a pentagram, users are able to adjust the wire length swiftly by pulling its oblate lampshade up-and-down to generate a lighting scenario with some personal touch.
Following the subsequent launch of PENSÉE table and wall lamps in 2020, The PENSÉE series is now available in a new pendant.
