Seeing Wood: The Idea Behind MUMU
First introduced in 2015, MUMU takes its name from the idea of “seeing wood.” Designed by Keng Dian Kuo, the lamp brings together clean metal lines and the natural warmth of wood, striking a thoughtful balance between contrasting materials.
From its streamlined metal body and softly rounded edges to the seamlessly integrated LED light source, every detail contributes to MUMU’s distinctive silhouette. Natural wood accents at both ends soften the metal’s precise form, creating a design that feels equally at home in a variety of interiors.
A decade later, MUMU stays true to its original design. Its timeless appeal lies in its clean lines and thoughtful balance of materials, allowing it to evolve naturally with changing interiors and lifestyles.
A Classic Reimagined Through Color
As contemporary interiors embrace natural materials, warmer tones, and a more inviting atmosphere, MUMU’s original design philosophy continues to resonate. To mark its tenth anniversary, MUMU introduces three new color combinations alongside its original black and white finishes.
Rather than changing the familiar silhouette, the new palette explores fresh relationships between metal finishes and natural wood grain. Sand Gold, Oatmeal, and Pearl Cocoa bring subtle variations in tone and texture, allowing MUMU to express a different character in each space.

As summer arrived in Tainan, SEED LIGHT, SEE LIFE welcomed visitors to Experience Life 2026. Over four days, we welcomed new visitors, reconnected with familiar faces, and shared conversations inspired by light.

For the first time, the venue’s overhead lighting was switched off throughout the exhibition, creating a more controlled ambient environment. With less ambient light, every layer of light, material, and space could be experienced with greater clarity.

Like a luminous first-quarter moon, Pensée quietly reflects the contours of its philosophy.
The extended design continues its familiar silhouette, where a crescent-shaped handcrafted glass shade emits a warm, delicate glow. As night falls, it lights gently—like a quiet moon in the sky—softening the darkness and bringing a sense of calm to the space.
Cleaner lines, letting light frame the story of space.
What sets the wall-ceiling design apart is its quiet presence.
Combining the qualities of both wall and ceiling lighting, a single fixture can be installed overhead or mounted on the wall. With simplified lines, it blends naturally into ceilings and walls alike, resting gently within the space without drawing attention.
Poetic in form, at ease anywhere
With greater flexibility in placement, spatial planning opens up new possibilities. Pensée functions as both a ceiling and a wall light, adapting easily to entrances, corridors, vanity areas, living rooms, or studies. Installed overhead, it illuminates the path below; mounted on the wall, it becomes accent lighting and a gentle guide within the space.
As people pass by, pause, read, or gather their thoughts, Pensée quietly glows nearby—light as a gentle companion.
Between light and wall, colour unfolds subtly
Four colour options allow the lamp and the wall to enter into a quiet dialogue. Sometimes it blends seamlessly into the background, letting the light take centre stage; sometimes it gently steps forward as a subtle mark within the space. With different wall materials and colours, the lamp reveals new characters—bringing quiet yet lasting variations to the interior.

Last week, we hosted Light & Life Dialogue at our SEEDDESIGN Taipei Store, welcoming Hai-Ren Shen, founder of Lumiji Lighting Design, and Hsu-Ru Yang, founder of UNDERLiIGHT, to share their insights and experiences in residential lighting design.
When discussing lighting design, many people first think about fixtures, brightness, or placement. Yet throughout the dialogue, one idea emerged repeatedly: meaningful lighting design begins with understanding how people live.
“Every lighting angle has a reason behind it.”
Approaching the topic from the perspective of residential lighting planning, Hai-Ren shared the professional principles and logic behind lighting design.
From reading and dining to everyday activities, each space serves a different purpose. The direction, height, and layering of light all influence how people interact with their surroundings—often in subtle ways that profoundly shape daily life.

Hsu-Ru, meanwhile, presented a variety of residential case studies, illustrating how lighting responds to different lifestyles and living environments.

Sometimes it is a gentle light above the dining table, quietly welcoming a family member home late. Sometimes it is a single lamp beside the bathtub, creating a moment of calm that feels almost candlelit. In smaller homes, it may be the thoughtful placement of light that allows one person to read comfortably without disturbing another.
These examples were not simply about lighting layouts; they revealed how light can accompany and enrich everyday moments.
Although the two speakers approached lighting from different perspectives—one focusing on planning and technical logic, the other on human-centered design—they ultimately arrived at the same conclusion:

Every home is different, and every lifestyle brings its own needs and rhythms.
During the Q&A session, participants raised thoughtful questions ranging from lighting arrangements and spatial atmosphere to the realities of daily living. The discussion became an open and engaging exchange of ideas, reflecting the many ways light can shape our experience of home.
Perhaps the direction of light is shaped, first and foremost, by the life it is meant to illuminate.
On April 22nd, Earth Day, we step away from numbers for a moment and return to a quieter idea—time.
At SEEDDESIGN, a light is never just a tool to dispel darkness. It is a presence that lives with you, through the rhythms of everyday life. We believe sustainability is not defined by how often something is replaced, but by how long it is kept. To create something you would never want to discard—that, to us, is where it begins. When a light continues to live in a place you care about over years and years, its quiet persistence becomes a gesture of care toward the world.
Refined by Time
Practical Simplicity
In a world of constant change, minimalism is often mistaken for reduction. At SEEDDESIGN, we approach it differently—through Practical Simplicity.
We design with restraint. Every line and every turn serves a purpose—either to shape the light or to resolve the structure behind it. To us, durability is a form of responsibility. To ensure our pieces remain relevant over decades, we focus on what is often unseen: thickened metal, carefully treated surfaces, and rigorous salt spray testing over 48 to 72 hours. Each light is made to sit quietly in daily life, to age well, and to never feel the need to be replaced.

Sustainability begins with how something is made. While metal can endure, electronic components inevitably age. When a light begins to flicker, must the whole piece be discarded?
At SEEDDESIGN, we choose another approach. Instead of irreversible adhesives, we use screw-based construction—slower, but fully reversible. When needed, parts can be replaced individually rather than as a whole, allowing the life of the object to continue. This is a way of caring for what we make, and a way of responding, quietly, to time.

A Lighter Way
Our thinking does not stop at the light itself. It extends to every step before it reaches you. High-efficiency LEDs reduce daily energy use, but beyond that, we reconsider packaging—not only as protection, but as part of the journey.
Through refined Knock-Down (K/D) structures, we reduce volume wherever possible, minimizing space in transit and reducing unnecessary footprint along the way. These small adjustments, often unseen, make the entire process simpler—and in that simplicity, a quieter way of caring for the world emerges.

For those who seek a more thoughtful way of living, our suggestion is simple: Slow Down. Rather than filling a space with fixtures, choose a light that truly belongs.
Through lighting design, we rethink how light inhabits a space—placing it with precision, while allowing shadow to remain. Not everything needs to be illuminated. With less energy, we create spaces that feel more at ease, more balanced, and more enduring.

Designed by Lee, Ying Hsuan, FLO avoids expressive gestures and visual excess. Instead, it captures emotion and rhythm through the quiet interplay of light and shadow. Its flowing form may appear effortless, yet it is shaped by careful consideration of proportion, structure, and light.
A Gentle Turn of Light
With the flow of light at its core, the design refines the lampshade and internal shielding through precise calibration. Light is gently contained to reduce glare and spill, revealing an illumination that feels calm, balanced, and enduring—reflecting FLO’s defining qualities: flow, enclosure, and directional flexibility.
Five Forms, One Spatial Language
Light should never be limited to a single expression. The FLO collection spans five configurations across pendant, wall, and table lamps, allowing it to function not merely as an object, but as an extended vocabulary within spatial lighting design. Across scales and settings, FLO moves with ease — from a sculptural focal point to a quiet presence in more intimate spaces — offering a calm, refined quality of light that gently shapes everyday moments.

這個念頭，開啟了 SEED 長達兩年多的水泥實驗。
Around the world, nearly 200 million people live with chronic insomnia. In a fast-moving, always-connected world, sleep has quietly become one of the greatest challenges of modern life.
Long work hours, family responsibilities, and the constant rhythm of daily demands often keep our minds racing long after we lie down. If the world cannot immediately grow quiet, perhaps we can begin with something simple — turning off the lights.
This World Sleep Day, we invite you to create a personal “buffer zone before sleep.” Through three stages of lighting at home, allow the body and mind to settle, rediscover the quiet of the night, and practice the gentle art of letting yourself rest.

In nature, evening light gradually shifts from the cool brightness of midday (5000–6500K) to the warmer tones of sunset (around 2700K). This gentle transition signals the body to slow down and prepare for the night.
In modern life, artificial lighting and glowing screens often blur the boundary between day and night. Keeping home lighting within a warm range of 2700–3000K helps restore a more natural rhythm and reduce blue-light interference with melatonin.
When a living room is bathed in warm, sunset-like light, both body and mind begin to unwind.

Turning on a bright ceiling light may signal “daytime” to the brain and disrupt the sleep cycle. A well-designed bedside lamp provides enough light without disturbing your sleep.
Lamps with smooth dimming, such as OLO, WÚ, or LING, allow the light to dim with the rhythm of the night.

In the lighting philosophy of Seeddesign, a bedside lamp is more than illumination. It is a gentle punctuation mark at the end of the day — accompanying the final page of a book, gathering the scattered moments of a busy day, and quietly handing them over to the night.
Many years ago, Meiric visited Florence and was intrigued by the “Jersey Barrier”, a modular concrete employed to separate lanes of traffic, that stood in the middle of the square. The delicate work of the fence amazed him and broke his stereotype against “cement objects”. While he was impressed, a bold idea occurred to him: “Is it possible to use cement as a material for lighting?”
That’s where it all began the following cement materials experiment for over two years.
At that time, you could never see a cement lamp in the market, every experimental idea was an adventure. At the beginning it was even difficult to reach a breakthrough making the cement strong enough to avoid cracking. After a series of failures, the R&D team turned to looking for a composite material. In a series of approaches eventually coming up with a formula and appropriate temperature that effectively accelerated the concrete curing and crystallized in this way encloses the aggregate particles and produces a dense material , ensuring its comprehensive and impact strengths by a critical 40-degree impact test. The mold, on the other hand, is hand-made with inner high-precision silicone rubber + outer plaster for easy demolding and for giving that delicate and smooth texture.
In addition to material innovation, another key factor to make this work is the production process management.
The mixed cement has to be evacuated by vacuum machine to 6~8 cmHg (Centimetres of mercury, while the atmospheric pressure is 76 cmHg). After the machine stops stirring, the concrete material begins to solidify. At this time, the master has to precisely control the timing and volume of the grout, keeping it slow, and focusing on every detail, while filling into the mold. Any tiny slip-up in this stage may result in unwanted imperfections such as cracks or holes.
In order to prevent the shade from cracking by dramatical change of temperature and humidity, there is a wash-and-soak procedure extending the dry-up period. The cement crystallized in this way encloses the aggregate particles and produces a dense material. Each piece is gently hand washed and polished by P600 sandpaper back and forth one at a time and carefully wiped and patted dry., and it is then removed outdoor 5-7 days for drying. A cement lampshade is officially completed.

As 2025 unfolds, the SEED Taipei Concept Store reopens after over nine months of thoughtful renovation, bringing renewed light to the city.
More than a showroom, the renewed space combines SEED’s full lighting collection across themed floors—each a quiet experiment in light and space. Every detail has been refined—from spatial flow to a rich palette of materials, including warm wood, pristine white, textured concrete, and custom finishes. Together, they reveal the many expressions of light and how it subtly transforms space.

Across three afternoons during the opening, we welcomed many friends from the industry—including interior designers, media professionals, and long-time collaborators—to share in this delightful occasion.
Following a warm welcome from the host and a presentation of the classics by our senior specialists. Our in-house designers took the stage across three weeks, each week featuring a different voice: our Design Director, a senior designer, and a new-generation talent. They shared their creative journeys—from the first spark of inspiration to the challenges of bringing each idea to life. They spoke of the delicate balance between structure and beauty, and the technical hurdles that shaped their designs. Through each story, it became clear: a light is never just a product—it is a thoughtful exploration of illumination and life.
We appreciate everyone who joined us and made these afternoons so meaningful.
